Beskrivelse av organisasjon

The SOS-Kinderdorf Berlin is located in the Center of Berlin in the district Moabit (Berlin headquarters). There are also locations in Wedding (district Center) and Gatow (district Spandau).
Our institution is part of the SOS-Kinderdorf Deutschland e.V. (headquarters in Munich) and is a privat social NGO supporting the rights and needs of children, young persons and families and is authorized by government as an institution for youth care („anerkannter Träger der freien Jugendhilfe“). We are member of DPWV (Deutscher Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband).
In Berlin we do offer social services for children who cannot grow up in their families in Kinderdorffamilien. SOS-Kinderdorf Berlin is the first SOS Children’s village in a major city and therefore is the urban pioneer for further urban SOS Children’s villages.

Apart from the traditional SOS families a wide variety of services are offered in the „Sozialraum Moabit“ which reflect the positive aspects of a city like multiculturalism, openness and social engagement. Services are: SOS families, family support and meeting point, multi-generation house, Kindergarten, school based services, Jugendberatung (advice for adolscents), vocational preparation, vocational trainings, intercultural gardening

Since about ten years there are European volunteers in the SOS-Kindertagesstätte (Kindergarten, short: „Kita“) and school based services (Hort – day care centre).
