The town of Hessisch Oldendorf is an area municipality with 24 districts in the Weserbergland. It is located directly on the Weser in the district of Hameln-Pyrmont and is close to and well connected to the capital of Lower Saxony, Hannover. The population is about 20,000 and the town of Hessisch Oldendorf has a large club structure and active youth work. The aims of the „Quartiersmanagement Hessisch Oldendorf“ in the sense of community work / neighbourhood management are the following:
1.To establish the newly renovated “StadtHaus HO” as a place where citizens of Hessisch Oldendorf can meet and join, where groups and clubs take place, artists perform and social advice in relation to various topics is given. The people, groups and institutions can put a request to the „Quartiersmanagerin“ to use the „StadtHaus“. Additionally, the „Quartiersmanagerin“ builds up a wide network to bring various offerings to the „StadtHaus“ that address the needs and wishes of the citizens. At the moment the following groups, clubs and services are located on a regular basis in the „StadtHaus“: parents-children groups, language classes, breakfast for senior citizens, photography meetings and various advisory services (job counselling, youth welfare office, pregnancy counselling, refugee aid). Further cultural and group offerings are currently in planning, which includes painting exhibitions, mother-baby groups, a repair cafe, womens groups and reading afternoons. New ideas and initiatives are always welcome.
2.To enhance community development in the neighbourhood. The work here focuses on going out on the streets, getting in contact with the inhabitants, to talk about their living situation and views on Hessisch Oldendorf, their wishes and needs. The aim is to build up a relationship to the inhabitants, to bring people with similar interests together and to support them in standing up for their own interests and ideas. This takes place through “activating interviews”, residents’ meetings and newly developing initiatives.
3.To deepen and further develop the integration work with refugees and migrants through projects, language courses, job counselling, special celebrations, women’s groups, etc. This occurs in close cooperation with the coordination office for integration.
