Soto del Real is a Spanish municipality in the province and Community of Madrid. It is located on the southern slope of the Sierra del Guadarrama, limits to the north with Rascafría and Miraflores de la Sierra, a municipality that also forms the eastern limit. To the south it limits with Colmenar Viejo and to the west with Manzanares el Real. Located 42 kilometers from the city of Madrid, it has an area of ​​42.17 km2 and is situated at an altitude of 921 meters above sea level.
Climate and natural environment
The location of the municipality in the middle of the Madrid mountains gives Soto del Real a continentalized Mediterranean climate, contrasting the cold winters with the heat of the months of June, July, August and September. In addition, its location between the Vellón and Santillana reservoirs, favors its scenic and environmental richness, among which it is worth highlighting its streams and groves.
In the most depressive areas, the ash tree is the dominant one, forming large meadows that are used for pasture. These ash meadows are ecosystems extremely rich in fauna and flora. At some points the ash is mixed with gall oaks and holm oaks. In higher areas, approximately from 1,200 to 1,900 meters, the predominant species is pine.
The ash meadows are part of the most identifying landscape of Soto del Real and are one of its main landscape, cultural and natural resources.
The declaration of the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park in 1985, as well as the declaration of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park in 2013 have favored the conservation of the environment.

Population
Soto del Real is a municipality that currently has 9,007 inhabitants, according to the Municipal Register as of January 4, 2019. The population growth trend year after year reveals significant growth in the municipality over the next few years. From a young population of 15-29 years we have 1781 young people.
We can deduce that there is no significant difference between the number of young people grouped by age groups of 5 years; although it can be seen that the group with the most people is 15 to 19 years old; young people of age to enter the world of work, with moral concerns and a population that, due to their age, is included in a group that could present risk behaviors related to violent behaviors, risky sexual practices and consumption of tobacco, alcohol and other illegal drugs. Fortunately, Soto del Real has low crime rates compared to the national and community average. The youth of the municipality represent approximately 20% of the total population.

Employment
According to the latest data for the last quarter of 2018, Soto del Real presents unemployment figures of 7.95%, lower than the average for the Community of Madrid, which is around 11.86%, and also lower than unemployment average in Spain of 14.7%. As for youth unemployment, Soto del Real has only 22 unemployed under 25, according to data provided by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. This figure stands out for being abnormally low, because most young people between 16 and 25 are still in their formative and / or educational stage, and are not included in the unemployment statistics of the Social Security.
The City Council has a job bank, but this is not aimed at youth employment. It is confirmed that the youth employment exchange service was developed years ago, but it ceased to be monitored and currently there is no one assigned to carry out this function.
