Description of organisation

La Cítrica Activa, is a cultural space that was born in October 2019, in the hamlet of Puente Tocinos, 5km from the city of Murcia. Created with the intention of regenerating the Levantine cultural membrane, it is a multi-purpose space that responds to the imperative need to offer a place for performing arts professionals to train, create, produce, generate encounters and build a solid artistic fabric in the Region of Murcia.
Since its beginnings, La Cítrica has seen the emergence of new artistic disciplines thanks to the proposals generated in the space. As different disciplines interact, new ideas are created and built to produce emerging artworks.
In the auditorium, the training and programming of shows are aimed at all types of public, from the youngest to the oldest audience, thus responding to the cultural demand of the citizens.
The project is based on two main streams:
1) Provide a safe space for the trainings, rehearsals and workshops necessary for the continuing education of artists.
2) Offer a quality cultural offer with live performances, giving priority to contemporary circus, emerging music, dance, contemporary and folk theatre, transformism etc.

An inclusive space
La Citrica is an inclusive space that facilitates the emergence of new collectives or artistic branches in a safe environment by providing a place and adapted tools to facilitate the development of artistic and creative proposals.
The opening of this space has allowed the creation of the first Drag House in Murcia, thanks to which has been created “El Bancal de Candanga”, a horizontal collective of drag queens advocating freedom of expression and gender. Before the existence of La Cítrica Activa, they did not have a physical place to rehearse, here they have found a protected and safe space to express themselves without fear of criticism and judgment. Now, they rehearse, perform and have their materials in the room, organize open doors, gatherings and receive people who have been attacked for who they are and their way of being in the world. They are a strong point of support for any individual who is helpless in situations of discrimination.

Direct communication
For La Cítrica Activa it is important to privilege direct contact and proximity. This is how we conceive a personalized attention of the public and come to detect the cultural demand of the citizens.
To nurture the scope of our work, we operate with a list of partners we call “Vitamin C. ” In general, the users are registered on their first visit to La Cítrica Activa, they are asked for their personal details so that we can keep in touch via emails, whatsapp groups, Facebook and Instagram posts, etc. As for cultural programming, we always have resident artists and their direct contacts, in addition, from the production office, we follow a protocol of selection of the artists who contact us sending us their proposals and/or dossiers.

Showroom
We have a stage with a black box to ensure a good reception of the shows and guest artists, a production and stage distribution office, a room, a complete toilet, and a corner with a kitchen respecting all the required safety and hygiene standards. We follow specific norms for our live shows, relying on the help of ushers, a bar service, sound and lighting technicians, and a social media manager who handles the publications on our social networks.
