Rainfer is a rescue and rehabilitation center for primates that have been confiscated from illegal trade, circuses or zoos that
kept them in poor conditions or from particulars that abandoned them. We shelter these animals and rehabilitate them both physically and mentally, aiming to offer them a dignified life and to integrate them into a group of their own species.
Our main goals are: fighting against illegal trade of species, creation of environmental awareness in the society (specially
focusing in the youngest) and holding and caring for primates that have been subjected to human exploitation.
We develop courses focused on primatology and guided tours in our facilities to raise environmental awareness and make people understand the issues related to illegal trade of species and how some of our day to day life choices can have an impact on these species (choices such as tourism and use of consumers goods may have a real impact!).
We focus mainly on the youngest, as their environmental awareness is basic for the future of endangered species, but we also have programmes focused on the general public.
We have a broad experience with national volunteers and we are applying for Quality Label as we seek to broaden our range of action and receive volunteers from other European countries as well. By doing this we expect to train some of the future conservationists, giving them the skills required to handle endangered species and also involving them into conservation.
