Beskrivelse av organisasjon

HEAD (Habitat for Equality, Achievements and Development) is a local, non-governmental organization working with and for people with disabilities (PwD) in Georgia. The organisation’s focus is on PwD of all ages and different kinds of disabilities and special needs. As a service provider HEAD operates Day Care Centers and Therapy Service Centers, and is moreover a pioneer and good example for development standards within the frame of working with PwD and special needs. Worldwide, PwD are everyday worrying about their human security, especially the right to live in dignity. While some countries are ahead of others and found well-working inclusive approaches, in most of them disabled people are considered a social burden, a group of people a state somehow has to deal with but does not really know how or even why. Georgia belongs unfortunately to the latter. Due to a lack of public services, support and awareness in society, PwD in Georgia often face aversion, abuse and stigmatization. To chance that, HEAD is following its mission ‘to realize equal opportunities and rights of children and adults with disabilities, to support their social and economic inclusion, to create a healthy environment to promote independent living, and to develop services tailored to their needs and interests.’ Energy, passion and engagement leads HEADs work and is geared to a society, where all people with different needs and abilities enjoy equality, solidarity and inclusion. For a life in dignity.
