Description of organisation

Vaterhaus gGmbH is a youth welfare facility, and subcompany of Ev. Stadtmission Freiburg e.V. It provides residential care for children and teenagers. It was founded in 2022, when – after the beginning of the war in Ukraine – an entire residential care facility was evacuated from Ukraine to Freiburg/Germany. The headquater of Vaterhaus is in Freiburg. Six groups of residential care are located in Freiburg and Bad Krozingen, near Freiburg.

We are dedicated to providing accommodation and professional care for Ukrainian children, who lived in residential care already before the war started. Currently 48 children and young people live in our facility.

Goals: Our residential groups support children and young people on their way to an independent life. They can develop personal, educational and professional perspectives in a protected environment. We help them to overcome the flight and its consequences. They are supported to develop skills they need for a life on their own. The six family-oriented groups combine everyday life, educational work and special therapeutic means. The groups offer structure and security as well as lots of fun, activities and joy of life. Ukrainian and German staff lovingly and reliably provide safety and security. This is an essential base for children's mental health.
We value a Christian, supportive and appreciative environment in a family atmosphere. Volunteers are expected to help professional staff in their daily work.
