Description of organisation

Michaelshof Sammatz is a vibrant ecovillage and UNESCO learning site near the Elbe River in Lower Saxony, Germany. Founded in 1985, it is one of Germany’s largest intentional communities, with 180 residents from 20 nations and around 80 international volunteers at any time.

Our mission is to promote ecological sustainability, personal development, and intercultural exchange. We manage 150 hectares of biodynamic farmland, advancing biodiversity and sustainable food production. We offer hands-on education and skill-building in biodynamic agriculture and gardening, construction and renovations, and cooking and food preserving for the whole community.

We aim to foster social inclusion and offer young people opportunities for growth through teamwork, connection with nature, and hands-on learning. Participants can engage in organic farming and gardening, construction and renovation, and community-based activities such as cooking and cleaning.

We warmly welcome people (18 years old and up) from all over the world, particularly those seeking intercultural experiences, practical skills, and a supportive environment for personal and professional growth. Michaelshof Sammatz is a transformative space where young people can contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future while discovering their strengths and passions across multiple areas of interest.
