Description de l'organisation

Die Tafel Österreich is the biggest and oldest foodbank in Austria. It is an independent social and environmental organisation. It provides food to people affected by poverty and living in social institutions (refugee center, homeless shelters, mother-children-homes etc.) since 1999. The food is provided free of charge and consists of food that would otherwise have become waste.
In 2024 it saved 1 578 tons of food from being thown away and supported 75 000 people in 160 social insitutions all over Austria with it. The organisation and it's work are made possible by donations - time (290 volunteers 2024), money and food.
We are located at the Großmarkt Wien where we have our office and the biggest of our storage places. This location is also where the international volunteers will do most of their work. They will get to know a wide variety of tasks (always with a clear schedule and training):
- collecting food on markets and from other donors
- examining and sorting the food
- distributing the food to social institutions
- educational workshops for children and youth
- office and event support
Volunteering with Die Tafel Österreich is living solidarity with people that are affected by poverty for various reasons - refugees, women and children in women's shelters, homeless people etc. The food provided offers nutricious choices they can often not afford otherwise. At the same time saving the food from waste contributes to a better climate.
