Latvian Autism Association (LAA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded in 2006, dedicated to promoting the rights and interests of individuals with autsm in Latvia. Its primary aim is to support individuals with autism and their families through advocacy, education, awareness-raising, and access to services.
Over the years, LAA has become a leading voice and expert organisation in the country, collaborating with ministries, municipalities, educational and healthcare institutions, and other NGOs. The association is also a member of Autism Europe, connecting it to international expertise and advocacy platforms.
LAA’s main activities include organizing support groups, creative workshops, conferences, and public discussions; providing training for professionals; consulting families and public authorities; and participating in national and international projects. It plays an active role in policy-making processes by contributing to working groups at ministries such as the Ministry of Welfare, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education and Science.
The organisation regularly works with young people with fewer opportunities—particularly youth with autism and their siblings from low-income or single-parent households. LAA’s projects focus on inclusion, empowerment, social participation, and personal development, using tools such as non-formal education and international mobility to foster skills, independence, and confidence.
- This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
