Association for the Support of Medical Education (Asociatia pentru Susținerea Educației Medicale- ASEM) is a non-governmental organization founded by medical students in Iasi, Romania. Its main aim is to promote medical education, health literacy and civic engagement among young people through interactive, community-based learning experiences. The association develops and implements educational projects that bring medical knowledge closer to pupils, students and vulnerable communities, encouraging responsible health behaviours and early prevention.
ASEM’s main fields of activity include:
1. Health education and first aid training in schools and rural communities;
2. Youth volunteering and non-formal learning, supporting personal development and teamwork;
3. Public health awareness campaigns focused on hygiene, nutrition, reproductive health and mental wellbeing.
Among its representative projects are EduMed START, EduMed – First Aid for High School Students in Vaslui, EduMed – Reproductive Education in Schools from Moldova and Chirurg pentru o zi (Surgeon for a Day).
These initiatives reached thousands of pupils and students through interactive workshops, demonstrations and community actions. ASEM works with a dynamic network of medical student volunteers, teachers and healthcare specialists. Its target groups include pupils aged 11–18, university students in medical faculties, educators and local communities in both urban and rural areas.
