EVS with a class of handicapped children - Collège Le Cleu
Collège Le Cleu Saint-Joseph
Redon, France
1 , FullProject description
Le Cleu Secondary School has opened a “Local School Inclusion Unit” (ULIS) for 10 physical and cognitive handicapped children (11-15 years old), who are under the responsibility of a specialized school teacher, every time they are not attending lessons in one of the classes of the school. The volunteer will: • Participate to the day-to-day support of the young disabled teenagers (moving around the school, settling down in the classrooms, writing, personal organization, homework), listening and paying attention to them so that they feel good, participation to the professional meetings (70% of the time) • Participate to a common project with the other EVS volunteers hosted in Redon : organising activities about Europe in the town and in the EVS organizations (15%). • Create some contacts with his country of origin, in order that the pupils of the school discover his/her country (15%).
TranslateAccommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will share a flat together with other EVS volunteers of Redon, with single bedrooms. He will get a monthly food allowance, and he will also be able to eat in the canteen of the school. As there are no public transports in Redon, the volunteer will be able to rent a bicyle for 4€ / month if he feels like needing one.
TranslateTraining during the project
The volunteer will get the support from the school teachers, and from his mentor, who will take time to listen to him, answer his questions and guide him in his support to the pupils. He will also have the support of the EVS coordinator of Mapar (coordinating organzation) with who he will be able to discuss about his project, his personal evolutions, etc.. The volunteer will also follow French classes during all his project (3 hours a week).
TranslateVolunteer profile
The volunteer should be interested to discover the world of handicapped people, pedagogy, and the school system. Dynamism, sense of initiative and of relationship, maturity to face a public of teenagers with less opportunities will assure the success of the EVS. Basis in french would be appreciated. The volunteer should be available on the proposed dates (September 2016- July 2017)

TranslateAdditional information
The project is held in Redon, which is a small town in a rural area. However, we host 10 volunteers in the town, coordinated by the organization Mapar. The volunteers are all in different hosting organizations, but cooperate in a collective project about Europe, connecting all the organizations of the town. We appreciate when volunteers are willing to propose projects and to take initiatives. This is also the opportunity to meet more people in the town, and to discover the other hosting organizations and projects.
This is also a way to live with other volunteers from different countries.
