Youth Council development: promoting youth participation The Manche County Council is a local government in Normandy. We are looking for one volunteer to develop the new Youth Council (YC). By building the YC, we aim at preparing young people to play a full role as active citizens and at empowering young people to participate in society.The YC will be made up with young elected members (12-13 years old), thematic commissions (sustainable development, citizenship and solidarity, sport and youth, culture) and plenary sessions. The volunteer will take part to these activities: - a communication and awareness campaign in order to start the Youth Council ; - promoting the Youth Council in the Manche secondary-schools ; - co-organizing and co-leading the « Cohesion Day » to gather young elected members ; - Supporting plenary sessions, commissions, and help young people to carry out their projects.

Activities take place in Saint-Lô in the Manche County Council building. Whenever possible the volunteer will be in a host family for the first weeks in order to be acclimated to the place. We will help him/her to choose a furnished studio flat or a flat-share. The volunteer will receive a stated money per month for buying their own food, paying accommodation and transport in addition to the pocket money. The volunteer could eat in the administrative canteen.

The volunteer will have the opportunity to discover the making-decision process of a French local authority, get some experience in leading a youth team and acquire or improve project management, effective listening, public speaking, and teamwork skills. Provided training: - EVS training sessions for volunteers - Online Linguistic Support - French language lessons and registration fee for a French Certification exam if the volunteer so wished - First aid training.

We are looking for a volunteer with energy, enthusiasm, sociability and creativity to develop the Youth Council. The volunteer has to be interested in education and citizenship, be attentive with young people and having good inter-personal skills. No diploma or language level will be required but communication skills in French would be greatly appreciated because the volunteer will directly interact with young French people. The volunteer has to have a valid driver's license because he/she may need to move occasionally in the territory to meet schools for example.
