Project description

During the development of the project “Mountain assistants”, groups of volunteers (and bicycle patrols included) are going to be organized. The youths from the European countries (Spain, Portugal, Poland and Slovakia) and Bulgarian rovers and scouts will organize activities as mountain assistance. Mountain assistants have to help all villagers in the villages, situated in the Lozenska mountain (small rural villages such as Lozen, German, Pasarel), as well as all tourists and guests who are visited Sofia to enjoy the fresh and preserved natural environment of Lozen and Vitosha Mountains. The project encourages the active participation of volunteers (including physical activity), the development of skills, knowledge and practical application to meet the needs of adolescents and guests of Lozenska mountain as recreation and tourism activities outdoors.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The international travelling costs are covered by keeping the rules of EC. For travel distances between 500 and 1999 km - up to 275 EUR per 1 p. and between 2000 and 2999 km - up to 360 EUR per 1 p. The hosting will be at a house, located at village of Lozen, Sofia, just 20 minutes from the capital. The accommodation will be provided at double rooms with sanitation, wi-fi. Some of the activities and duties outside camping will be required (on tents with scout facilities up to 14 days for the whole stay). Food for volunteers - complex food supplies, kitchen facilities and mentor for cooking.

Training during the project

1) course of Bulgarian language – basic level; 2) Training courses: beginners’ courses for medical first aid course in wood-rope structures, fire safety,organizing sports events outdoors, short courses, cycling and mountain guides; knowledge to provide medical first aid during natural disasters such as floods, fires; √ experience of working in an international team of volunteers in the different activities as taking part in the bike patrols; √ acquisition with habits and outdoor sports that develop physical culture - improving mobility, coordination and endurance;

Volunteer profile

Open for 2 volunteers to come from Portugal and Poland who possess basic knowledge, skills and competence of safety stay in mountainous. Moreover, volunteers will take care of the environment. The profile of volunteers is: youths between 18-30 years. Volunteers should have a basic knowledge and skills in the target guidelines of the project or should be members of Scout clubs and organizations. Volunteers need to have an interest in the Scout outdoor living and camping, environmental protection; active sports activities, social support activities; mountain biking.
