The role of the volunteers is strongly linked to the path of Matera 2019, to the projects, the exhibitions and the visit of the territory. Volunteers perform the following activities: welcome and accompany the artists and participants in the projects, events and initiatives of Matera 2019; welcome visiting schools for Matera 2019, telling their experiences; participate in the reception of other delegations; publicize events through leafleting or other promotional activities on the streets and roads city squares or dedicated places (eg train and bus stations); tell and invite to participate in the events; participate in the laboratories assisting the activities of citizens; carry out runner activities for shows and concerts; support the activities of checking and collecting documents together with an employee of the Foundation; participate and promote activities aimed at citizens for Project Leader projects; support with their participation citizens.

Matera is a medium-sized city that has lived until the 1950s a condition of marginalization as well as the rest of the region to which it belongs. After a long process of enhancement that led to the recognition of the Sassi (the ancient part of the city) as heritage of humanity (UNESCO), in recent years Matera has been characterized by its liveliness cultural heritage and the ever-increasing ability to attract cultural and quality tourism. Volunteers will live in a shared flat in the city and will get daily allowance and pocket money. Local transport will be covered by the organization.
TranslateTraining during the project
Long-term volunteers will be followed during all the activities by a tutor who will favor themjob placement and integration within the working group, thus favoring one full and active participation in all the activities of the Foundation. The tutor will organize meetings programming periodicals in which the other members of the Foundation will participate, and will be made available to contribute to the resolution of any voluntary need. In order to facilitate the integration of the volunteer not only in the organization, but also in the community local, a mentor will be identified.
TranslateVolunteer profile
Skills in cultural management, capacity in working independently and in international teams, good knowledge of English and other European languages, strong interest in Cultural capitals issues. Priority will be given to applications from previous and future European Capitals of Culture (Plovdiv, Rijeka, Valletta, Galway, Timisoara, Elefsina, Novi Sad, Kaunas, Leeuwarden, Pafos, Aarhus, Weoclaw, San Sebastian).
