Projektbeschreibung

Newly arrived refugees in Brussels are vulnerable due to their lack of insight into the complicated asylum procedure and into their ensuing rights and duties. The Start.point is a place where well-trained volunteers provide asylum seekers with a free meal, basic information on their rights, and answers to their questions. The Belgian non-profit association Flemish Refugee Action coordinates this volunteer project. We are currently developing extra activities to offer refugees a venue in the city where they can develop their interests, meet new people and get to know Belgian society better. The project has entered its Sixth year of existence and is one of our longest ventures. It provides an important added value to refugees as well as to the local community. We believe that its dynamic team of volunteers consisting of ex-asylum seekers, local migrant groups, employees from nearby firms, government agencies and organizations -is its most important asset, and is unique in Belgium.
