The National Agency of Erasmus+ and Eurodesk Iceland will co-host a youth celebration on the occasion of the European Year of Youth at the biggest public swimming pool in Iceland, Laugardalslaug. The youth celebration will take place on August 18.

The pool is located in Reykjavik's hip 105 neighborhood, 25-30 minutes scenic walk by the ocean/15 minutes busride from the city center. The pool and is wheelchair accessible. The event is open for all.

The youth celebration will include a second hand clothes swapping market in the old entrance, volley ball lessons on the ground, free snacks and musical acts from young Icelandic artists, both solo artists and group acts, ending with a DJ set. Guests can lounge in the hot waters, go on the waterslide or enjoy the other activities on the ground, in/out of the water.

The public pool benefits from Iceland's geothermal activity with temperatures of the water ranging from 28°c in the sporting pool to 42°c in the hot tubs. There are 2 outdoor pools, one indoor pool, 86 m waterslide, hot and cold tubs, steam bath and sun decks. The water is warm, even in cold weathers!

Please be aware that it is necessary to shower without bathing suit before entering the pools. The showers are located in gender separated locker rooms (kindly inform us if you would need access to a gender-neutral/non-binary changing room, it is available upon request). Access to the pool will be free of charge of this day.

Erasmus+, European Solidarity Corps and Eurodesk staff will be en place to inform young people about their opportunities in the Erasmus+/ESC programs.

During the meet-up before the youth celebration DiscoverEU travelers will have a chance to meet with Eurodesk Iceland staff to learn about the Icelandic geothermal pools and bathing customs in a country packed with volcanic and geothermal activity.
