The Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange project 2018-2020 is now finished. Please stay tuned to the European Youth Portal for further developments!

Ameera // Palestine

Ameera is a 20-year old Public Relations undergraduate student. She has developed a main interest in media and its impact on people’s reality, affected by her personal suffering experience with the Second Intifada in the West Bank, Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Ameera has started her media career since a very young age, which was clear when she received the first place prize at an international short film competition from London University by10th grade.

Aside from her studies, Ameera has volunteered in teaching her international colleagues Arabic language, as well as taking part in different national and international activities as a media and events planning volunteer.

Ameera found the Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange project "surprising", her views often matched with some European participants more than with those from her own region. Through this type of cross-cultural dialogue, she also recalled how the constructive communication skills she was actively learning came into good use, especially when she had opposing views with participants.

“At first I would have reacted immediately, then I learned to take a deep breath and remembered why I am here and the roles of dialogue and what I learned. I would describe my experience with the project as transformative” Ameera highlighted.

The Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange platform was also a refreshing and unique virtual communication experience for Ameera due to the fact that each participant speaks and others cannot interrupt, leaving more space for listening and reflecting throughout the dialogue.

“My experience with the Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange project has taught me that everything is possible; no matter where you are, there are similar struggles out there and you are not alone. And in the end we all connected as human beings”, Ameera concluded.
