Yasmine // Algeria

Yasmine is an English language student at Mohamed Lamine Debaghine University in Setif, Algeria.

Yasmine’s English teacher encouraged her to participate in the Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange activity: “Newcomers and Nationalism”. An interactive open online course, stimulated by video lectures from expert academics and participant’s exchange of opinions and ideas.

“At first I was a little bit afraid that I would be judged. But I knew from the start that this project would be beneficial for me.”

“I improved my listening skills, as I had to listen to others opinions. I also discovered that I have the ability to debate and defend my ideas.”

Throughout the 10-week duration on the course, Yasmine explored how nationality shapes our identity and rights,  from the perspective of newcomers in Europe. “Topics were amazing!” highlighted Yasmine: “very beneficial and debatable, as well as interesting.”

Some of the questions raised during the course, were: “What attracts newcomers to Europe?”; “What makes others want to move away from the European Union?”. “I liked it more than learning in University. This programme taught me  things that can’t be learned in universities or schools.
