The toolkit comprises ready-for-use materials gathered and produced during the 5-year life time of the “New Narrative for Europe” project. It aims to inspire further discussions about Europe and its future. You can create your own debate!
The idea of the “New Narrative for Europe” initiative (which ran for five years (2013-2017), starting as a Pilot Project and continued as a Preparatory Action, both supported by the European Parliament) was to bring Europe closer to its citizens, revive a "European" spirit based on Europe's core values, and to formulate together new European narratives. In the first phase of the project, representatives of the cultural world, arts and science were actively involved in the debate and came up with the Declaration "The Mind and Body of Europe", promoting the European values of freedom, democracy, equality, human dignity and human rights.
In the second phase, the initiative turned to young people as the key actors of the European Union. For two years there were multiple events and debates organized across Europe to collect young people’s views about Europe's future and what they see as important elements of the European narrative/s. The dialogue with the young audience was run also via a dedicated online platform as well as via social media. The young people’s ideas were put together in a paper listing “12 ideas for the future of Europe” and later on, representatives of young people prepared the declaration "YOUrope for Youth” containing concrete proposals for action, which was presented to political leaders during a closing event in Brussels.
To keep the discussion around Europe going on and to take advantage of the rich material gathered and produced during this project, we created an online toolkit. The written and audio-visual materials stored there are available in 24 EU languages. It can be widely used to enrich or inspire a debate about the future of Europe, European values, European project. See what other young people have already said, get inspired and create your own debate! Engage and take part in co-creating tomorrow’s Europe!
