The UK and Erasmus+

Последно ажурирана на Вторник, 06/04/2021

The UK is no longer an EU Member State. It has also opted not to take part as an associated country in the new Erasmus+ programme 2021-27.

So what happens to EU-UK mobility now?

Existing Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps projects
All projects selected under the Erasmus+ programme 2014-2020 will continue operations until their completion on the same basis under which they were selected.

Many Erasmus+ cooperation and exchange projects are multi-annual – they are funded for typically two to four years. This means that a number of these existing projects and partnerships that involve UK partners or are open to UK individuals will continue on the basis of these 2014-2020 rules, when the UK was still a Programme Country.

Erasmus+ projects selected from 2021 onwards
The UK’s decision not to be involved as an associated country - on the same footing as EU Member States - will radically reduce the number of opportunities for Erasmus+ cooperation projects and exchange in the areas of education, youth, and sport.

The UK will be a non-associated country in the new programme. As such, from 2021 onwards a limited number of opportunities will remain open to UK participation because they are open to institutions or individuals from all over the world. These include for example Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programmes. Some limited mobility opportunities between the EU and the UK as a third country may be possible in other actions of the new Erasmus+ programme. Stay tuned: we will provide further information in due time.

What about visas and residence permits?

From 2021 onwards there are new rules for EU nationals on visas, residency and tuition fees in the UK. For more information consult the UK government guidance pages for students.

Advice for a wider group is provided here.

The EU has taken a decision to allow UK nationals short-term visa-free visits of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, since 1 January 2021.

You should also check your health insurance coverage for the period you are studying or volunteering in the UK, or visiting the UK under DiscoverEU.
