World heritage hands-on with UNESCO!

Last updated on Tuesday, 29/09/2020

If you are interested in heritage conservation, the UNESCO Young People's World Heritage Education Programme has all the tools you need. Ready to learn all about it?

The UNESCO Young People's World Heritage Education Programme (WHE) sees you as a future decision-maker, and as a decision‑maker you should preserve the world’s heritage. For you to gain all the related skills and knowledge, the WHE Programme has several options, but the most attractive are without a doubt the Youth Forum and the World Heritage Volunteers programme.

World Heritage Youth Forum

The Forum can give you and your teachers an opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas on how to become involved in heritage conservation and presentation. You will get the chance to meet people from other countries and learn about their heritage. You might even join the youth delegation that presents the results of the Youth Forum at the World Heritage Committee meeting. So far, 40 international and regional youth forums have taken place with more than 1560 young people participating.

World Heritage Volunteers

If you are between 18 and 30 years old, you can take part in a youth action camp as a volunteer for 2 to 4 weeks. You will have the chance to take concrete action and to play an active role in the promotion and preservation of World Heritage. You will have the opportunity to meet members of youth groups and heritage & education experts.

How to participate

World Heritage Volunteers is coordinated in collaboration with CCIVS and regional coordination by European Heritage Volunteers and Better World.

  • CCIVS, the International Non-Governmental Organisation engaged in the field of International Voluntary Service, organises camps taking place in Africa, Arab States and Latin America.
  • European Heritage Volunteers offers programmes for professionals and volunteers without heritage-linked skills and includes conservation and restoration activities, training courses in handcraft, projects for students, volunteer camps and other projects providing education and awareness raising in the field of heritage.
  • Better World a Korea-based non-profit NGO, offers activities on global education, community development and international volunteering (website is only in Korean).
