DiscoverEU Inclusion Action wins European Ombudsman Award!

The DiscoverEU Inclusion Action has won the 2026 European Ombudsman Award for Good Administration in the category ‘Excellence in diversity and inclusion’.

The European Commission team working on the DiscoverEU Inclusion Action was proud to receive this award and spoke of the privilege of working for an action that allows young people with fewer opportunities to travel across Europe.

DiscoverEU offers 18-year-olds a free rail pass to explore Europe's cultural richness. Since 2022, DiscoverEU has expanded to provide support to young people with fewer opportunities, including those facing disabilities, health issues, economic hardship, discrimination, cultural or educational barriers, or geographical isolation.

One of the first under this action was a Czech project that allowed young teenagers from children’s homes to travel, gaining independence and confidence during the journey. Since its launch, this specific action has enabled over 5,600 young participants to travel, learn, and discover Europe.

The European Ombudsman Award for Good Administration serves as a benchmark for excellence in EU public administration, recognizing projects that enhance transparency, inclusivity, and citizen engagement. It not only rewards outstanding initiatives but also inspires other EU institutions to adopt practices that improve the lives of European citizens.
