European Commission launches the Pledge on Intergenerational Fairness!

Última atualização quarta-feira, 14/10/2026

Finding affordable housing, protecting your mental health, accessing quality public services, securing a job that can cover costs of living — these are issues that matter to young people across Europe. Unfortunately, these things feel more out of reach today than in previous generations.

Finding affordable housing, protecting your mental health, accessing quality public services, securing a job that can cover costs of living — these are issues that matter to young people across Europe. Unfortunately, these things feel more out of reach today than in previous generations.

To help tackle these challenges, many of which also require action at local and regional level, the Commission has developed the Pledge on Intergenerational Fairness. Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef launched the initiative during the European Week of Regions and Cities.

The Pledge encourages local and regional politicians across Europe to put the well-being of both current and future generations at the centre of their decisions. It builds on the European Commission’s Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness, adopted in March 2026, and turns big commitments into practical action. As part of the Pledge, politicians vow to improve access to affordable housing, mental health services, and to amplify the voices of children and young people in decision-making.

We encourage you to share this call with your local and regional politicians asking them to sign the Pledge on Intergenerational Fairness. Let them know that intergenerational fairness matters to you and that you want to see today's decisions contribute to a fairer future for everyone.

You can also use the available communication materials to spread the word, raise awareness among your peers and encourage more young people to get involved.
