We are seeking a volunteer to work in the learning unit called Lamppu. Lamppu is a learning unit aimed at young intellectually disabled adults for practicing everyday skills and supporting its students in ultimately becoming more independent and active members of society. Lamppu provides a wide range of subjects for its students, including Finnish language (reading and writing), using money, learning to tell the time, physical education and a variety of creative activities (creative dance, drama, arts and crafts). Lamppu emphasizes experiential learning in real-life situations in addition to more conventional, classroom based teaching. Studies at Lamppu include work practice periods for its students and guidance in finding a path into further studies or working life. Working hours are between 8-16 from Monday-Friday, 35h/week. In Lamppu volunteers support young people in studying and performing tasks, serving food, organizing activities, listening to music and outdoor activities.
Beitrag zu Unterbringung, Verpflegung und Reisekosten
The volunteer will receive every month money for food and gets meals from Lyhty ry. Pocket money is also paid monthly. Volunteer will have a room in a shared accommodation with other volunteers. The accommodation will be fully equipped and electricity, water and gas will be covered by the hosting organization. There is an entitlement to holidays for 2 days per month, altogether holidays days that can be taken after consulting with the Lyhty’s team. Volunteer gets the public transportation card from Lyhty.
Fortbildung im Rahmen der Tätigkeit
The volunteers will have a mentor working with him/her trough the year. Volunteers will meet other volunteers regularly and will have private meetings with the project coordinator depending on need of each volunteer. In the beginning of the year volunteer needs to do the hygienic card test for alimentation security. We provide organizations own first aid course as well as first aid guidance at workshop. During volunteering period the National office will arrange two times mandatory camps for ESC volunteers doing different projects in Finland.
Teilnehmerprofil
Good social skills and motivation to work with people with intellectual disability are important. The work can be dynamic at times and requires such mentality. It is important to have the motivation to learn Finnish language. We are open to all participants but we prior participants with less opportunities meaning people who, for economic, social, cultural, geographical or health reasons, a migrant background, or for reasons such as disability and educational difficulties or for any other reasons have less opportunities. Please let us know in motivation letter if there is any of this at your case. Participant must be able to start before 30.11.2025.
