Education on Sustainable rural and urban Farming

We are installing an edible forest permaculture in rural Brandenburg (practical work) and want to document the progress and learnings of this for third parties, also developing workshop and seminar formats for post-pandemic times. During the upcoming winter months, this is the focus of our eductional work in sustainable farming. We're also in charge of the education program at Europe's largest urban greenhouse farm (stadtfarm.de). Schools, kindergartens and even university groups visit the farm to learn about cutting-edge sustainable farming practices – producing food (fish and vegetables) as close to consumers as possible. As of late spring/early summer, we hope to begin our tours in different languages again, using contact-free formats, create a smartphone-compatible audioguide through the visitor center of the farm, and an online virtual tour for Internet visitors. Also, we would like to expand our range of DIY and Upcycling projects.

Beitrag zu Unterbringung, Verpflegung und Reisekosten

Your room is hosted on a historical farm in Steinhöfel in the home of our chairman and his wife. This is also the location of our permaculture project. Once home office times end, we shuttle to the train station in Fürstenwalde regularly (10 minute drive), from where regional trains get you to StadtFarm within 45 minutes. A drivers license is recommended if you want to be independent on weekends! Your apartment (shared with other volunteers) hosts a kitchen to prepare your own food, one meal a week is shared with everyone in our small farm community.

Fortbildung im Rahmen der Tätigkeit

During your stay with us, you will learn tons about the state of the planet, sustainable agriculture (specifically permaculture and urban farming as practised at StadtFarm) and your personal food footprint. A technical affinity for audio guide and virtual tour is recommended. Improve your skills in working with and teaching children, in communicating learnings to a large audience, but also in project management as you plan, prepare and execute tasks, following milestones. We have a vast pool of experience you can draw from, but you are encouraged to research and put forward ideas of your own!

Teilnehmerprofil

You should enjoy both physical (farm) work as well as researching and teaching - be it directly or indirectly by making information available, accessible and easy to understand. We expect an open-mindedness towards innovation, our culture and processes - just as we would love to learn all about you! A practical approach to getting things done is more than welcome, and always have the courage to input your ideas and ask lots of questions. And in current times, respect for (changing) Corona-rules and recommendations is an absolute must.
