Daily supervision and accompaniment of children placed in a home by the authorities. These children come from very difficult backgrounds and often display atypical behaviour. It can be hard to hear their stories and also to understand how it can be necessary to deal with them, although this is not an everyday occurrence. Although most of the time, the volunteer is there to support the educational team in the daily lives of the children, there are many opportunities for fun activities (walks, trips to the shops or the cinema, sport, board games, wellness...) as and when the volunteer feels ready to take initiatives. It is extremely important for the volunteer to speak at least a little French before arriving. Very few team members and none of the children speak English in the institution. Good will to learn is essential.
Comparticipação nas despesas de alojamento, alimentação e transporte
The volunteer will have their own room and bathroom and also a small kitchenette within the institution. They can eat with the children and the staff but can also cook for themselves sometimes. No transport necessary for daily tasks but exceptional costs are covered by the project.
Formação durante a atividade
The volunteer will be supervised by the director, Françoise Volvert, and the coordinator, Dominique Albanese. As there is no prior training necessary, there is constant collaboration with the team members. The volunteer will also be mentored by a member of the support organisation during seminars and visits. He or she will be able to follow a French course in a nearly town, but we cannot stress enough the importance of being able to communicate at least a little in French before arriving.
Perfil do participante
The volunteer needs to be motivated to work with children between the ages of 3 and 17 years who have been placed in an insitution because their parents can't or won't look after them properly. A good level of French is not necessarily required at the moment of applying, however, it is expected that the volunteer will at least be able to communicate a little on arrival.
