Description
The volunteer will be mainly involved in the activities carried out in the innovative small shelter for homeless people “Bakhita House”, located in the center of Schio (VI), one of the main manufacturing and industrial cities of the Veneto Region. Bakhita House is a community that can accommodate different types of guests including homeless people, women and men who live in a temporary situation of difficulty and young people in the area. It offers various services such as the social secretariat, the canteen, showers and laundry, the prompt reception service (about 20 beds) and the possibility of extended residential reception (5 beds) where guests can experiment with paths of personal autonomy. the volunteer will support the work team in welcoming adults (18-70 years or so), Italians and of other nationalities, who live in a temporary condition of housing discomfort, due to heterogeneous problems such as problems related to migration, drug addiction and job loss.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Food: the receiving organization directly supplies food, covering also the holiday period (they have a big kitchen in Casa Bakhita with all types of food) Accommodation: personal apartment close to the city center and to Casa Bakhita (1 kitchen/dining room + 1 bedroom). Facilities available. Working hours: 30 hours/week + 1 of tutoring + 2 hour/month of mentoring + 8 hours/month for group mentoring with the others esc of the area. Day off: Free weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Holidays: 2 days/month + 5 days in Christmas period
Training during the activity
• Pre-Departure Training, organized by the Sending Organization • On-Arrival Training, organized by the Italian National Agency • Mid-Term Evaluation, organized by Italian National Agency • Final Evaluation, organized by National Agency or Sending organization Italian class with a professional teacher (in presence with another esc volunteer): 80 hours Individual and group mentoring with a professional coach.
