This project aims to foster a positive international atmosphere in all the activities provided by youth affairs in the city of Pori. Main tasks will take place in five different youth houses in Pori. Volunteers help youth leaders to monitor the youth house, start conversations with youngsters and sometimes plan small activities. The activities you create should be inclusive since youth house visitors come from different backgrounds and are 13 to 18 y.o We want the volunteers, youth workers, and youngsters to develop an interest in pressing matters like climate change, immigration, etc. while enjoying their time participating in fun free time activities and workshops. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteers will share an apartment close to the city center, bedrooms are separated but they will share the kitchen, the living room and the bathroom together. Volunteers will receive pocket money and money for food. With 480€/month the volunteer will manage, but prices in Finland are high! Hosting organization will help buy the flight tickets and arrange transportation from Helsinki Airport to Pori. Volunteers will get an access card for the local public bus transportation when needed to get to work and a Finnish mobile phone number with internet connection.

Training during the activity

In this project you will go through two training sessions: The on-arrival training lasts around one week. It takes place in "Youth Centre Villa Elba" in Kokkola in the first few months. The Mid-Term Training usually is in mid way of the project and is about three days long. It will be a great opportunity to meet other international volunteers from all over Europe and share experiences, thoughts, and feelings regarding your volunteering period. These trainings are meant to enable you to create friendships and travel more here in Finland.

Participant profile

We are looking for two volunteers (18-30 y.o.) motivated to work with youngsters 13-20 y.o. Work requires the ability to take responsibility and initiative in making contact with the youth despite the language barrier. We need someone who is independent and flexible in planning small activities and who can also accept that sometimes the plans won’t work. You will have one office day per week when you create content for our Instagram account. We look for someone who has some experience or skills in; social work, social media content creation, graphic design, sports or event planning.
