Volunteering with Traper@s de Emaús

ASOCIACION CULTURAL EUROACCION MURCIA

Traperos de Emaús

Murcia, Spain

Description

Volunteer activities will involve 30–38 hours per week. More information about the project can be found at: https://app.smore.com/n/9eb0q-volunteering-with-traper-s-de-ema-s. Completing the online application form available there is strongly recommended to take part in the selection process. The organisation works to support people at risk of social exclusion and promote their social integration. Volunteers will mainly carry out their activities in the Circular Bookstore, which will be their primary working environment. There, they will support daily operations, interact with the local community, and contribute to the social and environmental mission of the organisation. Depending on their interests, learning process, and organisational needs, volunteers may also collaborate in the Communication and Awareness Area or participate in activities within the Traperos de Emaús user community, gaining experience in social inclusion, community work, and sustainability.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will live in a shared flat in the city centre of Murcia with other volunteers. Each volunteer will have a private room to ensure comfort, privacy, and personal space. The coordinating organisation will cover the rent and utility bills throughout the project. In addition, the project provides food support (€184 per month), pocket money (€186 per month), local transport, medical insurance, and travel costs from the volunteer’s place of residence to Murcia and back, in accordance with the European Solidarity Corps programme rules.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will take part in the On-Arrival Training and Mid-Term Evaluation organised by the Spanish National Agency. These activities are a mandatory part of the European Solidarity Corps programme and provide participants with guidance, support, and opportunities for intercultural learning. They also offer a space to reflect on the volunteering experience, exchange experiences with other volunteers, and assess personal and professional development throughout the project.

Participant profile

This project is open to young people aged 18–30 who have not previously participated in a European Volunteering Service (EVS) or European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteering project. The selection process will be based on the candidates’ attitude, motivation, and willingness to actively participate in the project. We are looking for young people who show a genuine interest in the organisation’s social and environmental mission, as well as a strong commitment to the values of solidarity, inclusion, sustainability, and community engagement. Candidates who demonstrate responsibility, initiative, flexibility, and openness to learning will be particularly valued. Previous experience is not required. Basic knowledge of Spanish is appreciated, as it can facilitate communication and integration into the local community, but it is not a mandatory requirement.
