Description
The “Conseil départemental de la Manche” is a local government located in the Normandy region in N-W France, looking for a motivated volunteer to support its youth assembly called the “Conseil Départemental des Jeunes”. It aims at preparing teenagers between 11 & 15 years old to become citizens and to take an active role in the local community. The participants develop at least 4 projects of their choosing during a period of 2 years. For 10 months from September 2025, you will be helping the CDJ coordinator in the following activities: - Organising two seminars with all the participants (in September & May), - Organising a weekly thematic committee: « sports & future », « living together », « culture & heritage », « environment & sustainability », and encouraging the young people to implement their projects (from September to June). You will also be a part of the actions to promote sport and parasport on the territory as a legacy of the Paris Olympic Games.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Activities take place in Saint-Lô (about 19 000 inhabitants). You will be hosted in a family during the first week of the volunteering mission, in order to adjust to the new environment. Later you will share a furnished flat near the city centre with 2 other volunteers (rent is not charged to the volunteer). You will receive food and pocket money each month to cover day-to-day living expenses (about 590€/month), support for travel to and from the project, a health and house insurance, a bus pass, and up to 40€/month for travelling during free time.
Training during the activity
- European Solidarity Corps training sessions with other volunteers in France ; - Online linguistic support, French lessons and registration for a certification exam in French if you wish ; - Facilitation training at the beginning of the mission: how to use facilitation tools, skills in working with teenagers, good practices to handle disruptive behaviour and accompany the participants in their projects. Participant profile
We are looking for a volunteer with energy, enthusiasm, sociability and creativity. The volunteer has to be interested in education and citizenship, be attentive with young people and have good inter-personal skills. No diploma will be required, but communication skills in French (B1 or B2 level) would be greatly appreciated in order to directly interact with young people. The volunteer should preferably have a valid driver's license (travelling throughout the Manche region can be required).
