Description
MigraCode is a coding program for refugee and migrant people in Barcelona. It is managed by the NGO Open Cultural Center, with the aim of facilitating the labour integration of refugees and migrants in Barcelona, as well as advocating for a more diverse workforce in the tech sector. Your tasks will be: Support on the follow-up of students, both during classes and remotely; Support on the development & improvement of the Web Development Syllabus; Availability to attend all the weekday & weekend classes and ensure the smooth running of both; Support the instructors during classes; Support the MigraCode team on the management of volunteers; Keep up to date the inventory of the office & supporting the team on IT issues when required; Support with communication content creation; General administrative tasks; Support the organisation of MigraCode events: Graduation, Kick-off, JobVersity, MasterClasses, Hackathons, Company meetups;
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Travel costs reimbursed from the region of origin to Barcelona and back (up to the limits established in Erasmus+ Guide distance calculator) - Accommodation: you will share a flat in the center of Barcelona with other volunteers. It will be fully equipped (kitchen, bathrooms, washing machine, etc). It is important to be ready to share your bedroom with another volunteer of the same sex/gender. - Monthly food + pocket money: approximately €310 - Insurance (Henner for ESC)
Training during the activity
You will receive a complete induction to Open Cultural Center activities, values & principles and processes. You will receive training on OCC's safeguarding policies. You will be trained by your direct supervisor in regards to your tasks. You will also receive training on the usage of online work tools (Slack, Notion, Airtable, etc.). You will have access to our language courses (in presence or online, Catalan, Spanish and Arabic). During the year, you will have access to all the internal training sessions delivered to the team (ex. public speaking).
Participant profile
The candidate has to be a driven person, interested in coding (HTML, CSS, JS and Git is a plus, but any profile interested in learning will be considered); Interested in participating in educational programs. The candidate must be patient and understanding. Experience in teaching is a plus; Willing to work in a flexible environment (with different hours and tasks); Sensible about what it is to work with people in vulnerable situations. Empathetic attitude is a must; Good command of English, both written &spoken. Spanish is a plus; Interpersonal &team working skills.
