Are you interested to internationalize and gain a learning experience from cultural interaction? The hosting organization offers you the chance to take part in various activities, working with children and young people aged between 9 and 25. You will participate in the youth house evenings, youth work, and other activities the youth services and city library provide.The hosting organization encourages you to co-operate with other municipal actors and local NGOs, depending on your personal interests. All activities will be carried out together with the youth workers/library workers, regarding your professional skills and interests. During the autumn, winter and summer holidays you will take part in various events that you can organize. It's good to know that a lot of activities will take place in the evenings and some at weekends, but the weekend days when you work will be taken up during the week.Pocket and food money are provided by the UE, and also an insurance against any risk.
Comparticipação nas despesas de alojamento, alimentação e transporte
You will be accommodated in an apartment that you will share with another volunteer. The apartment is located close to the city centre. The appartement has two individual bedrooms, two shared bathrooms, shared kitchen and living room, and a small backyard. You’ll be given bicycles which is a useful way of getting around in Kerava and you are also provided travel cards for Helsinki Regional Transport to get around within the capital region. Most of the meals are provided by the Kerava High School. The travel from Italy to Finland and back will be completely reimbursed.
Formação durante a atividade
You will attend a pre-departure training before leaving Italy, and on arrival and mid-term trainings provided by the Finnish National Agency. You’ll be offered Finnish courses, and they will take place in Kerava and through online courses. It is also possible for you to participate in gatherings and other non-formal meetings of the other volunteers working in Finland. You will be supported by both a task-related tutor and a second personal mentor: they will help you to get part in the daily life of the hosting organization through regular meetings.
Perfil do participante
Are you over 20 years old, outgoing, with spirit of initiative and capable to work with children and youth? You must be able to express your views on working, and plan and implement activities for children and young people, mainly aged between 13 and 17. It is important that you are able to live with someone who may come from a different cultural background. If you have all these skills and a good level of English, and you are available for an entire year, you'll be the ideal candidate.
