Dublin Simon Community works with people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. We work with people at all stages of homelessness in order to support them to move out of homelessness, to a place they can call home. Dublin Simon Community works to prevent and address homelessness across Dublin, and east coast of Ireland. Our aim is to empower people to access and retain a home of their own. Dublin Simon Community has a well-established volunteering programme, volunteers are at the core of the work we do within the community. Volunteers work alongside professional staff members to provide vital services to people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. Volunteer placement is for up to 12 months, in our Emergency Accommodation, Supported housing and Client Development programmes. Comparticipação nas despesas de alojamento, alimentação e transporte

ESC volunteers will live in shared house with other volunteers, shared or single room. Volunteers are from a diverse range of backgrounds and nationalities. The services you are placed in are in the city centre, transport arrangements by bus, rail, cycling, depending on the location of the volunteer house transport to services is less than an hour. Volunteers are tenants in the house and make their own arrangements regarding food purchase and cooking. Dublin Simon community provide ESC volunteers with a weekly allowance to help with the costs of travel, food and other expenses.

Formação durante a atividade

Volunteers receive training opportunities as part of their placement, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, Child Protection, Boundaries and MAPA training. These help with learning practical skills associated with the types of activities completed during the placement. Volunteers can undertake a FETAC level 6 course through Technical University Dublin. This is a certificate in volunteering which focuses on reflective practice, group work and discussion. The national organisation Leargas provides arrival and midway training for volunteers. Dublin Simon offer YouthPass, volunteers receive accreditation.

Perfil do participante

Are 18 or over. Understanding of homeless issues, committed to social justice and community development work. Interested in volunteers who have or are completing social care or social science courses. We are interested in people who are volunteering, and who may consider employment opportunities after their placement. That they have a good sense of professional boundaries and self care.
