Description
We are looking for an individual interested to work with kids and young people in various leisure activities and youth work. We need individuals that are open minded, enthusiastic and creative to join our team. Youth work in Árborg consists of five fritidshjems/after school programs, three youth clubs for youth with disabilities, a big youth center and a youth house. We promote our work as fun, engaging and professional. Our main focus is active participation, prevention work and engaging leisure activities. We use open youth work as well as organized group and individual activities. In our team are over 100 youth workers with various knowledge and experience. Our volunteer would participate in projects within these programs: -Fritidhjems/after school programs -Leisure activities for kids and young people with disabilities -Youth center for youths aged 10-16 -Youth house for young people aged 16-25 -International projects Our motto is diversity - trust - cooperation - joy
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will share a house with two-three other volunteers. It has a private bedroom for each person and a shared kitchen, bathroom and living room. The project lasts 10 months and the volunteer will have two holiday days off each month, in addition to the Icelandic bank holidays. The volunteer gets monthly pocket money and food allowance to buy and cook his/her own food. Árborg's main town is Selfoss (9.000p) that is a small town where everything is within walking distance and the volunteer will get a bike to use as well.
Training during the activity
The volunteer will participate in an on-arrival training and a mid-term training in Reykjavík held by the National Agency in Reykjavík and meet volunteers from other Icelandic projects. There will also be various training opportunities throughout the year within our project during the stay in Árborg.
Participant profile
Our youth work can be loud, full of unexpected scenarios and surprises therefore it is important that the volunteer can handle an active work environment. Further, we are looking for a volunteer who enjoys working in a team with people from different backgrounds and needs. Who is flexible and creative, enjoys both office work (planning, meetings, brainstorming) but also enjoys participating in activities with young people.
