Sustainable education for the future
Stadtverwaltung Cottbus
Cottbus, Germany
Description
The Pedagogical Centre for Nature and Environment (PZNU) is an environmental education institution of the city of Cottbus. Our work focuses on nature and environmental education as well as health promotion. The "Sustainable education for the future" project is developing ideas and programmes for kindergarten children, young people and adults. The ESK volunteer will be involved in educational, organisational and horticultural activities. This includes the preparation and realisation of school and extracurricular activities. The ESK volunteer's own projects will include expanding the digital Actionbound offers (translating them into other languages if necessary) and preparing and supporting the organisation of the annual garden festival "Rendezvous in the Garden". Furthermore, the gardeners should be supported in activities such as bed, tree and pond maintenance. Other possible activities could be: doing the shopping with the cargo bike, support/maintenance of social media & homepage.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will stay in a shared flat with one or two other volunteers as your roommates. Everybody will have their own room but share the bathroom and kitchen together. The flats are furnished and there is everything you need for your daily life, such as dishes or a washing machine. The flat is in the city center of Cottbus. Basically, you don't have to pay for your voluntary service. We reimburse your travel costs, you don't have to pay rent and receive monthly pocket money.
Training during the activity
In addition to the two usual preparatory and intermediate seminars, there will be a German course.
Participant profile
The ESK volunteer will work outside a lot and should enjoy working with people and plants. Previous organisational and horticultural knowledge is desirable, but not mandatory. Language skills in English for everyday communication are desirable, as long as German language skills are deepened. An extended certificate of good conduct is mandatory and must be brought along at the latest at the start of the voluntary service.
