Description
This project will take place in KIA (Korrectie Instituut Aruba), the prison of the island. The volunteers will have the chance to impact the lives of the inmates of the women’s wing of the prison. The project itself will be structured in two weeks, during which the volunteers’ team will participate daily in different activities with the prisoners of KIA. The activities will include music and art production, fashion shows, sport, games, combined with personal and professional development workshops. FAIS (Fashion and Arts in Inclusion Settings) will be a meaningful and powerful experience where the volunteers will have the chance to make a different in the environment of KIA, and to take back home an enriching, rewarding and unique experience. Сместување, храна и транспорт
Volunteers will stay in a large youth house with a male and female dormitory, showers, toilets, a large outside space, a large living room and a kitchen where they will cook their own meals. Transport will be arranged to and from the work activities and for some cultural visits. For free time there is a bus stop just outside, beach and shop are within walking distance. The group will have a collective budget for the weekly grocery shopping and will be responsible for cooking and cleaning. Extremely important will be to fully clean the house, beddings etc at the end of the project.
Training during the activity
You will be provided with trainings in all aspects of the activity as well as gaining a YOUTHPASS and support around the creation of that. There will also be opportunities for you to train one another, sharing your skills with the rest of the team.
Participant profile
Due to the environment where the project will take place, the volunteers we are searching for will have to be characterised by big empathy and sensitivity as much as strong adaptability, flexibility and maturity. Beside from that will be required strong skills in one or more of the following fields: art, music, fashion design, beauty care, yoga, graphic design, social media and logistic. Fluent English is required. Spanish and/or Papiamento would be a plus. We are looking for volunteers over the age of 21 years.
