Description

EKIKROK is an organisation that raises awareness about healthy and sustainable food and nature. It reaches out to a wide range of people: children, adults and people with vulnerabilities. people who are vulnerable due to poverty, disability or mental illness. To carry out its projects, it has two locations in the heart of a village: a participatory citizen's grocery shop and a 65-acre permaculture garden. Your main task will be: Accompany and assist leaders in their awareness, raising activities (vegetarian cooking, biodiversity, edible wild plants,...) during courses, workshops and events. Contribute to the participatory citizen dynamics in the vegetable garden and the grocery shop (open 1/D per week) - by getting involved in the projects carried out in the vegetable garden: diversified organic market garden production (vegetables and fruit), development of biodiversity (management of the pond, shelters for wildlife, etc.), maintenance of the hedges, care of the animals etc.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will be accommodated in a flat near the Gembloux train station, 20 minutes by public transport from the organisation (private room in an house with garden(you can share the appartement with single-parent families (children possible, then:)-students-woofers-cat - assistance dog sometimes ) Every month, the volunteers will be paid an allowance, including food and pocket money. Local transport costs (bus or bike) will be fully covered . In the workplace, the young people will be provided with all the professional equipment for the performance of their various activities/tasks.

Training during the activity

organisation. Then, once you arrive, the Belgian National Agency (BIJ) will organize an arrival and mid-term training. Aside from that, you will have the opportunity to take part in the trainings organized for the young people in Citizen Service (integration week, democracy, interculturality, European first aid certificate, non-violent communication, sustainable development, etc.). You will also be followed by the "Citizen Service teams for personal and psychological follow-up (by the team psychologist).

Participant profile

We are looking for an open-minded young person, interested in a participative and civic-minded project, who likes life in the open air and working in contact with nature , who questions the impact of his or her consumption and more specifically of his or her food on the environment, health and the people who produce it, who feels concerned by the restoration/protection of nature, who is at ease with a variety of audiences (children, adults, people with disabilities,...), who takes initiative and can work both independently and in groups. A basic knowledge of French would be appreciate.
