Level Up: LGBTQIA+ community support and non-formal education

Zavod Moja mavrica - skupnostna podpora osebam z manj priložnostmi, Ljubljana

Ljubljana, Slovenia

Description

Join our queer-led, intersectional team through the volunteer activity Level Up! You can acquire skills in the field of working with people (especially marginalized communities and specifically LGBT+ people), personal planning, project work, international cooperation, activism, communications, videography and photography, and cultural expression and engagement. Typical tasks of volunteers are participation in the implementation of weekly evenings of board games, co-organization of artistic, social and recreational events, street work, connecting in the community, creating educational content including linguistics, queer topics and awareness raising, and the development of a personal project. To apply for the opportunity, please include a short video as your motivation statement (a video of yourself speaking, no editing necessary), explaining why you would like to join this project and organisation specifically and send it to info@mojamavrica.si.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

As part of the project, accommodation shared with another volunteer, monthly food vouchers, a monthly ticket for public transport in Ljubljana, pocket money of €5 per day and other costs are provided as needed and agreed upon. As an organisation, we don't have our own office and instead share working spaces with other NGOs and public spaces, so the working environment is very dynamic.

Training during the activity

In each task, you will have personal mentor support, coordinator support and enhanced mentor support, and will take on the role of a learning person who offers and enables space for young people with fewer opportunities for connection and community. There will be training opportunities for every activity undertaken, with a focus on NGO administration, specifics of working with LGBT+ youth, peer support and cocreating support networks and street youth work. Additionally, you will be encouraged to undertake more learning opportunities and will receive individual and group lessons in Slovene.

Participant profile

Young people aged 18 - 30, experience in volunteering in contexts of LGBT+ activism and NGOs is desirable but not necessary. A strong antidiscrimination stance is necessary. Basic English knowledge is required, Slovene is not. Considering the activities, an interest in queer topics, videography, feminism, street work and street activism and languages would make for the best match. To apply for the opportunity, please include a short video as your motivation statement (a video of yourself speaking, no editing necessary), stating why you want to join us and this project specifically, and send it to info@mojamavrica.si. We are an inclusive organisation and particularly encourage queer and neurodivergent youth to apply. It is possible to start the project at or before 1st April, for 6 months.
