INCLUSIVE LEARNING IN VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCES (ILIVE)
Asociación Cultural En Construcción
Avilés, Spain
Description
The iLIVE! project provides learning opportunities for young people with disabilities through sports volunteering. It brings together European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteers in international teams for short-term initiatives, fostering inclusive learning experiences and encouraging participation in both mainstream and disability-focused sports. iLIVE! also aims to expand inclusive volunteering by engaging more sports clubs and associations at the grassroots level. Volunteers will design campaigns to attract both young people with disabilities and new sports organisations to participate, promoting personal and professional growth. Key activities include organising volunteer taster sessions in various sports club roles such as hospitality, event management, bookkeeping, fundraising, facility maintenance, communications, and coaching. The project seeks 7 local and 5 international volunteers to promote multiculturalism, solidarity, and cultural understanding.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will live in Residencia Fuero, in Avilés (https://aviles.es/residencia-fuero), close to the town centre, supermarkets and shops. They will stay in shared rooms with four beds and individual bathrooms. The building has a big terrace, a shared kitchen, common spaces and a laundry room. It has an elevator and adapted rooms for wheelchair access. Participants will prepare their own meals and they will be provided with food budget and a daily pocket money of 6 euros. Local transport to participate in the activities will be covered by the host organisation.
Training during the activity
Participants will attend a pre-departure meeting to receive key information and preparations. Over three weeks (21 days), they will receive training and expert support to enhance their volunteering experience with knowledge, practice, and purpose. In the final days, a "Future Opportunities" session will guide volunteers in their professional and personal growth, encouraging further volunteering, training, and career development. A mentor will provide support, and the international community will contribute to their development.
