The power of together

Music, communities, entrepreneurship & sustainability at Gimles cafe

FONDEN GIMLE

Roskilde, Denmark

Description

Gimle is a regional music venue, student house and youth culture café. Gimle offers Roskilde and the region's residents a wide range of cultural events with quality, content and diversity. At Gimle, the volunteers run the arrangements - both before, during and after the events. The focal point of the project is to run Gimle's cultural café, The Raven, together with the other volunteers and staff - this includes bartending, event management and catering for bands, volunteers and customers. The café is open 5 days a week and is a popular gathering place for volunteers and the local community. In the café you can arrange everything from concerts to international evenings or a food event. There are opportunities to fill in with your own creative abilities and ideas, and thereby discover what you are really passionate about. The volunteers are encouraged to create a personal project in order to put a "foot print" at Gimle. This project can include cultural events, concerts, decorations etc

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The European volunteer share an apartment with three other volunteers from different countries, which contributes to an increased understanding, not only for the Danish culture, but also for other European cultures. In addition, there is a good environment for internationals at Gimle, where both the European and Danish volunteers contributes to make the internationals feel welcome. The volunteer receives money for food and pocket money. During their shifts, they get free food.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will be invited to an on-arrival training and a mid-term evaluation by the National Agency. Gimle offers relevant courses throughout the project, such as hygienic course, bartender course, stage hand course etc.

Participant profile

Young people between 18 and 28 years old. As a volunteer at Gimle, you will be part of a large social community, and you should be ready to be part of it. No special skills are required, but an interest in cooking, as there is kitchen work, music, volunteering, and events is a must.
