APRODEH is a human rights organization with offices in Lima, Ayacucho, Apurímac, and Huancavelica. It focuses on legal defense for victims of human rights violations, strategic litigation, awareness-raising, and advocacy to influence public policies with a rights-based, gender-sensitive, and intercultural approach. Volunteers will contribute to content creation for dissemination materials with cultural relevance and a gender focus, training sessions, and capacity-building activities for social leaders and youth. They will participate in political and social advocacy, support women’s collectives in their empowerment processes, and assist victims and their families in memory and reparation initiatives. Additional tasks include designing graphic materials, preparing reports, drafting project proposals, and writing articles for local media.

Comparticipação nas despesas de alojamento, alimentação e transporte

The volunteer will live in secure accommodation (private room) and will receive a monthly allowance to cover food expenses. Reaching Huancavelica requires direct travel from Lima to Huancavelica by bus, a journey of approximately 10 hours by road. Huancavelica does not have a very active cultural scene, but as the regional capital, it has all basic services available. It offers opportunities to enjoy the countryside and participate in traditional festivals. The city of Huancayo, located three hours away by shared transport, offers a variety of restaurants and cultural activities.

Formação durante a atividade

Volunteer willl learn and gain insight into the realities of social organizations and advocacy networks (Instances Against Violence Against Women, Regional Agricultural Management Committee, Integral Reparations Plan Council, Violence-Free Coexistence Advocacy Group, and other allies). They will gain first-hand knowledge of the situation of rural and urban Andean women in Huancavelica, their strategies and efforts to bring about change at different levels, through readings, participation in capacity-building sessions, healing spaces, and advocacy networking.

Perfil do participante

Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. A degree in communication will be an asset, with knowledge of gender issues, intersectionality, and political and social advocacy. Ideally, they should also be familiar with intercultural approaches. Previous experience in advocacy actions and gender-related work is preferred. Essential skills include social sensitivity, empathy, organizational abilities, teamwork, and strong analytical and summarizing skills. The candidate should demonstrate adaptability to different cultural contexts. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is highly desirable. To be eligible, applicants must have experience or knowledge in advocacy and gender topics, previous volunteer experience, social sensitivity, adaptability, and teamwork skills.
