EU Volunteers Empowering Women through Sustainable Agriculture, Nature Restoration, and Climate Action for Community Resilience. Fundación Despierta started in 2012 as a scientific dissemination platform, it evolves into the Despierta Program in alliance with Kasa de Colores and reaches its autonomy in 2022. Despierta is a non-profit organization, duly registered and regulated by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition of Ecuador. Dedicated to developing initiatives within the framework of environmental conservation, environmental education and community development. Activities: 1.Raising community, sustainable ancestral agricultural practices 2. Mapping nutritional deficiencies that can be covered with community. 3.Identify opportunities for improvement in agriculture 4.Training in project development 5.Development of sustainable tourism 6. Help with social media and marketing 7. Women empowerement–identifying opportunities 8. English classes
Zakwaterowanie, wyżywienie i transport
The indigenous kichwa community (50 people) is in the closest part of the Puyo River, each family has theirsmall house in the surrounding. Volunteers are in private area with private cabanas (huts), individual, shared bathroom area, kitchen and dining room are communal. There is main Maloka (bungalow) where the ceremonies, rituals and meetings of the community take place. There is another space for collective activities - garden, craft store, large area for sport activities, natural pool with spring water. Community is 20 min. walk from the busstop and 30 min. by bus from closest town - shops
Szkolenie w trakcie działania
Fundación Despierta works in the communities of 3 regions of the country: Puerto Cayo - Manabí Panzaleo - Cotopaxi Tarqui – Pastaza For this project we are going to work specifically in the: Community LISANWASI in TARQUI (The Amazon rainforest) On arrival, an orientation camp and Spanish lessons before the start of the project will be provided, as well as training with the local mentor and with the teacher.
Profil uczestnika
It is important to understand that the volunteers will have to get close to the community and approach in a friendly, respectful and reliable way in order to get the information needed to reach the goals. The volunteers should be flexible, come with an open mind and without judgement, with an intention to understand and experience their culture. Take time to build relationships and trust, observe, understand, ask questions, show interest, be proactive and show respect for their culture, ancestral practises and the way of living. They will get involved in the community activities: reforestation of species that have been lost. Supporting ecotourism issues: mingas, youth, children. Crafts that they sell in the community for visitors. Join daily work activities – working in chakra (field), manual work with the community (Mingas) – cleaning, collecting wood, planting, fixing the paths, construction work, food prepararation. The volunteers should be ready for a simple accommodation, life in a jungle, no hot water, simple food, insects and humidity.
