Summer camp at Máltanoda

Egyesek Ifjúsági Egyesület

Miskolc, Hungary

Description

The Lyukóvölgy Learning Center, run by the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, has supported disadvantaged, primarily Roma children in Miskolc since 2016. Through individual and small-group sessions, as well as recreational activities, the center helps children catch up academically and overcome social challenges in collaboration with schools and families. Join the Lyukóvölgy summer camp and make a lasting impact on children aged 6 to 18! As part of an international volunteer team, you’ll teach English, lead games and sports, and inspire confidence and joy. Each day begins with group exercises and sports, followed by workshops on career orientation and healthy living. Around 30 children participate daily, with the official program ending at lunchtime. Volunteers can continue engaging with kids through learning support, play, or even outdoor activities like herb collecting. Be part of this meaningful experience and help create unforgettable moments!

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

All volunteers will be accommodated in Miskolc at the Martin Luther King Dormitory, a student residence dedicated to disadvantaged youth. We provide three meals a day: breakfast at the dormitory, a communal outdoor-cooked lunch at the learning center, and additional pocket money for dinner. A vegetarian option may be available, but unfortunately, a vegan diet cannot be accommodated. Each volunteer will receive a daily allowance of 7 EUR. At the end of the project, travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the travel distance. All necessary equipment will be provided.

Training during the activity

From Friday till Sunday an orientation training (movement, sports and games and facilitation skills) will be provided by an experienced Egyesek staff member. This will be followed by mentoring sessions to support the learning and professional development of you. In the institution school staff will provide further support if required. Participant profile

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are empathetic, patient, and have experience or interest in teaching children and teenagers. Strong communication skills are essential—even nonverbal communication—along with the ability to connect easily with different age groups. This camp is especially ideal for those who have worked with children before or are looking to gain experience in this field.
