Environmental Expert in Kenya

NGO MONDO

CIVS COMMUNITY SERVICE

NAIROBI, Kenia

Descripción

The BRIDGE project, implemented by CIVS Kenya, will be carried out at two Resource Centers located in Nyakach and Kuth Awendo in the Kano Plains of Kisumu County. This region is largely dependent on agriculture as the main source of livelihood, yet it is frequently affected by seasonal flooding, which significantly impacts food security and economic stability. In response to these challenges, the BRIDGE project will place strong emphasis on environmental resilience and sustainability. Volunteers will work with community members to raise awareness on climate change adaptation, promote climate-smart agricultural practices, and lead tree planting campaigns. These activities are aimed at reducing the environmental impact of flooding, restoring degraded land, and improving long-term agricultural productivity. Volunteers will also help organize community workshops and school outreach programs to educate both youth and adults on sustainable land use, soil and water conservation etc.

Alojamiento, manutención y transporte

Accommodation will be arranged at a shared rented flat within the region with a bathroom and toilet. CIVS will furnish the room with a few pieces of furniture and basic equipment for the kitchen and bathroom. The apartment will have electricity and water, though volunteers may on some occasions experience disruptions of these services. Volunteers will be taught how to clean their own clothes using their hands by our local mentors. Volunteers will prepare their own meals at the apartment. Transport to the projects is by motorcycle. Transport to the market, and to Kisumu City is by public vans.

Formación durante la actividad

This opportunity is part of the BRIDGE project (Building Resilience, Innovation, Development and Gender Equality), in which volunteers will have the chance to work on a common objective: empowerment and skills development of vulnerable communities, with a focus on women groups and enhance digital skills, participate in UN Women Summits and animating digital workshops.
