Environmental Expert in Kenya
NGO MONDO
CIVS COMMUNITY SERVICE
NAIROBI, Kenia
Beschrijving
Implemented by CIVS Kenya, this initiative takes place at the Resource Centers in Nyakach and Kuth Awendo, located in the Kano Plains of Kisumu County. In this region, many families rely on agriculture for their livelihoods but face recurring challenges from seasonal flooding that threaten food security and economic stability. As a volunteer, you will work alongside community members to raise awareness on climate change adaptation, promote climate-smart agriculture, and lead tree planting initiatives that help restore degraded land and reduce the impact of flooding. You’ll also support community workshops and school outreach activities that teach youth and adults about sustainable land use, soil and water conservation, and environmental stewardship—empowering local communities to build a more resilient and sustainable future.
Regelingen voor accommodatie, eten, en vervoer
Accommodation will be arranged at a shared rented flat within the region with a bathroom and toilet. CIVS will furnish the room with a few pieces of furniture and basic equipment for the kitchen and bathroom. The apartment will have electricity and water, though volunteers may on some occasions experience disruptions of these services. Volunteers will be taught how to clean their own clothes using their hands by our local mentors. Volunteers will prepare their own meals at the apartment. Transport to the projects is by motorcycle. Transport to the market, and to Kisumu City is by public vans.
