Volunteering in the Actor's Space
FUNDACIO CATALUNYA VOLUNTARIA
Vic, Barcelona, Spain
Description
The Actors Space is an international theater and film center in a 16th century farmhouse near Barcelona. The project combines art and ecological development, offering volunteers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in sustainable farming and theatrical creation. Forest gardens, organic vegetable gardens and irrigation systems are being created on a 38-hectare site. Volunteers participate in the Wild Theatre project, using the natural landscape as a stage for performances. The center seeks to promote ecological practices including syntropic agroforestry and permaculture while training young artists to create art that reflects the human connection to nature. The project will run from March to September 2025 and aims to foster a community where creativity and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers are accommodated in comfortable rooms in an old farmhouse with a shared kitchen and three bathrooms. Meals are organized with food from their vegetable garden and gardens, including fresh fruits and vegetables. The house has solar panels and a study area with a library and internet. The rural location means you have your own transportation - the nearest town is 15 minutes by car or an hour on foot.
Training during the activity
Under expert guidance, volunteers receive hands-on training in organic gardening, agroforestry and water management. Training includes working with soil, growing plants and creating sustainable irrigation systems. In the theater part of the project, participants learn how to organize outdoor performances, create installations in the natural landscape and the basics of theater directing from renowned director Simon Edwards.
Participant profile
The project is aimed at creative Europeans 24-30 years old, passionate about theater and nature, able to work both in a team and autonomously. The ideal candidate appreciates the quiet and seclusion of the countryside and does not need the hustle and bustle of the city. Having a driver's license or own car is essential for easy travel in hilly terrain. The participant should be willing to live in a remote area for long periods and actively participate in eco-initiatives.
