Description

The Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding is a UNESCO Category 2 Centre based at the University of Iceland. It promotes multilingualism and highlights the importance of language as a key part of cultural heritage. The Centre supports translation and translation studies, language preservation, and research and education in languages and cultures. A current priority is indigenous and lesser-spoken languages, aligned with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022–2032. Its work focuses on West Nordic languages, Romani language and literature, and multilingualism. The Centre provides a multicultural environment for research and hosts events for teachers, students, researchers, and the general public. The volunteer will be involved in tasks supporting different departments of the Centre which involve Social media and website maintenance and content creation. Support and manage events and assisting research projects.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation, food and transport costs are covered by AUS ICYE Iceland. The volunteer will live in a house with 7 other ESC volunteers near central Reykjavík and close to the project, with a private bedroom and shared kitchen, bathroom and living room. A public transport card for the whole year will be provided. Training during the activity

AUS ICYE Iceland will organise an introduction training at the arrival. On arrival and mid-term training organised by Iceland’s National Agency are compulsory. The University of Iceland will provide training during the activity as seen relevant. Participant profile

Interested in the field of languages and multilingualism. Skills and experience in social media publishing and outreach. Driving license, category B. Independent, Organised, Proactive, Motivated, Flexible, Open minded, Communicative, Teamworker TASKS: The volunteers will be involved in various tasks supporting different departments in the Centre under the supervision of the Centre’s director. The tasks depend on the volunteers interests and skills, but involve Social media and website maintenance and content creation. Support for and management of events, such as lectures of international guests. Assisting research projects and the Centre’s programmes with desktop research tasks and project administration. The volunteers are encouraged to propose their own initiative in the framework of the Centre's work.
