STICHTING INTERNATIONALE WERKKAMPEN
Leens, Netherlands
Description
The historic Manor Oosterhouw in Leens offers a recurring volunteering opportunity. Built in 1868, the mansion and its gardens have remained largely unchanged since 1912. Volunteers help restore and maintain the gardens through digging, weeding, pruning, and wood shredding. The project offers a chance to work in a multicultural team, learn gardening and preservation skills, and help protect this unique cultural site. Volunteers work five days a week; on other days, camp leaders organize cultural and team-building activities to help participants connect and explore the Netherlands. With a team returning from last year’s successful project, this is a great way to make a positive impact on the environment and local community while experiencing life in the flat agricultural landscape of Groningen.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers stay at Camping De Horizon in Molenrij, sharing tents (provided by SIW). A group tent and two tiny houses with kitchens are available. Bring your own sleeping mat and sheets. Bicycles are provided for the 15-minute ride to Oosterhouw and for free time. Meals are cooked in teams, and everyone joins the Cooking-Cleaning-Crew (CCC). Tasks are self-organized.
Training during the activity
Online training is available upon request.
Participant profile
No specific profile or skills are required but only motivation for the project, for its themes and values, for life in an international group and for the willingness to discover the local population and landscapes.
