Work with children and youth in Leisure time activities center

Centrum volneho casu

Stará Ľubovňa, Slovakia

Description

The aim of this ESC project (11 months) is to introduce young people to the reality of out-of-school education institution and its activities, help them improve their skills and abilities, foreign language while at the same time allowing them to learn new ones. For some this can also be the first time they are out of their home, in a foreign country and on their own. We are here to help them with all of those things. Volunteer's role will mostly consist of cooperation with people in our organisation and social media. Volunteers will help them with ongoing activities prepared by the Centre for leisure time activities. They will be working with children and youth in the culture area like dance, music, but they can also be active in areas corresponding to their hobbies and interests that are available, like chess, floorball, falconry or languages to name a few. In addition, we organize big events for our town like International Children's day, St. Nicolaus Day and also summer camps.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Rented flat, shared with up to 3 volunteers. Each volunteer gets their own room, with kitchen and bathroom being shared. Travel costs for the arrival/departure are covered. Transport in town is not needed, since the flat is less than 10 minute walk from the organization. However, public transport is available, as is the local train and bus station. The volunteers are able to use their kitchen to cook food or they can join us for regular lunch at one of the restaurants (or some common lunches / celebrations). They are also provided with monthly sum of money in addition to the pocket money.

Training during the activity

Pre-departure training will be the task of your Sending organization. On arrival training roughly weeks to about 2 months after their arrival, to be conducted by our National Agency (place and time chosen by the NA, changes all the time) with other volunteers staying in the country. Followed by Mid-term training somewhere in the middle of their stay (roughly 4-5 months after On arrival training). Daily lessons in Slovak language with a designated teacher/tutor as needed.

Participant profile

We are looking for volunteers that are still children in their hearts, open to new situations and things and who also want to work with children and the youth in the area of culture and eductation. Young people that will tolerante different cultures and those that are prepared by their sending organisation – to stay longer time without their family in another country. At least basic level of English is very welcome and helpful. As is having experience working with children and the youth and/or ability to dance, have interesting ideas, organize activities and a lot of patience. If you enjoy managing social media and doing photos/videos that is also a plus. You will have an easier time if you can fill some of the emptier moments with your own activities or work.
